if it came from Carmax with their warranty. That way when an apex seal fails I get a new engine for the cost of a 100 dollar deductible.

They should continue to make this car with a piston motor.

I called about the 05 for 14k and 62k miles on it and they said for a 5 year up to 125k mile warranty it'd be around 3 grand

Because this is murica and a cheap used sports car isn't a thing. Also carmax usually marks up their prices over regular used car dealers

I'm always amazed at the used market in the UK, you guys tend to pay more for cars and then they depreciate even more radically (at least from what I can tell). It would be awesome to be able to pick up some of the used cars at the prices I see over there.

Just a heads up, if you are looking at RX-8s take a look for a privately sold newer model, it will be cheaper to buy and Mazda covers the seals and engine internals under a "rotary core" warranty for 8 years or 100k miles. I've had great experience with Mazda USA standing behind their cars even though I've have some very bad experience with the dealers.

Oh god that show..
I've watched a few times thinking "oh cool, auto auctions and some car rehab" Noooope. The things they do to those cars is awful and sometimes painful to watch.

Luckily there's a C.J. Wilson Mazda not far from my house and from what I hear those guys are awesome

With the 2.3L turbo it would be wonderful and have torque.

That 2005 is a $5k car if sold by a private party here; the "Carmax Tax" is generally pretty high, but the premium on the 2005 is HUGE.

It's so weird how new cars in the UK are absurdly expensive (partly due to VAT) and used cars are absurdly cheap.

Just look for a 06+ model with service records, and make sure the owner knows what he is talking about.
